Previous Events | Submitted by admin on January 14, 2008 - 4:10pm.
Jonathan Hutto, active duty U.S. Navy Seaman, will speak out against the Iraq War on Sunday January 20 at 3:00 pm at the Erie Art Museum Annex, 30 East 5th St., Erie, PA. (entrance on 5th Street, just east of Glassgrowers Gallery). The event is free and open to the public. Jonathan Hutto, 29, is currently assigned to the Norfolk based aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt. He and other active duty military launched the Appeal for Redress providing a way for member of the armed services to urge their congressional representatives to end the U.S. occupation of Iraq through the group's website, http://appealforresdress.org/. The wording of the Appeal for Redress is short and simple. It is patriotic and respectful in tone: "As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq. Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price. It is time for U.S. troops to come home." Hutto's book, Anti-war Soldier, will be released next month. His presentation is part of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday events in Erie and is sponsored by Erie Peace Initiative (http://www.eriepeaceinitiative.org) along with several other peace and justice groups.
